Maddix Alotis
Waterman. North Shore, Oahu.
Maddix grew up on the North Shore chasing whatever the Pacific threw at him — big surf, flat spells, and everything in between. A waterman in the original sense: comfortable in any conditions, at home in none but the water.
What does the water ask of you that nothing else does?
It’s not about one thing — it’s about being comfortable in all of it. Surfing, swimming, paddling. The ocean has a thousand moods and you learn to read every one of them.
What does your daily ritual look like?
Up early, check the swell, get in the water before anything else. The rest of the day sorts itself out from there.
What keeps you on the North Shore?
There’s nowhere else like it. The waves are real, the people are real. It keeps you honest.
